So far, so good.
Not fly fishing but did some inshore fishing this week in Nicaragua.
Used spinning rods - one with a spoon and the other a floating rapala plug. Both armed with a deadly looking treble hook. Threw into a school of mackerel and ended up snagging one in the side which happens quite a bit when they're going after bait fish. The captain was whooping and I'm thinking, "fuck" once I see that I've snagged it. He tosses it into a dry barrel and I ask why he doesn't kill it. "Stays fresher if they die slowly."
Second fish is a grouper that took the treble hook through the eye. First mate rips the hook and eye out and tosses it back into the water. "We don't keep them."
Third fish is a black tuna on a legitimate take but also tossed into the barrel and I have to listen to it struggle for a few minutes until I finally reach in and cut it, Captain looks at me like I'm crazy.
I think I'll stick with trout and tiny barbless flies.
