Legal advice, is it illegal to post a bad review about a company? Or vent about them - Page 2

The UK legal system is insane in this regard. There's a great documentary out about some people who were sued by McDonald's for saying things that EVERYBODY knows to be true, but they were required to prove it in Court. It's the "McLibel" case, fascinating stuff.

I recall it got a lot of publicity after a scientist (journalist?) got sued for saying that homeopathic medicine was bunk, or something like that.

Yes. His name is Simon Singh and he ended up taking a stand for what is right and decided to fight the case. Many people simply choose not to due to high costs associated with a drawn out legal battle. Put up a lot of his own personal money in his defense, but I believe he had some donations from supporters of his cause. Ended up winning the fight. You can read a nice recap of the story here: http://www.theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=1853

On a side note, i'm a big fan of the highly entertaining podcast of Dr. Steven Novella who wrote the above blogpost I linked to. It's called "The Skeptics Guide to the Universe." If you have any interest at all in science, skepticism and reason then it comes highly recommended.

I 2nd the recommendation for McLibel. It's a great documentary and if you have Netflix it's available for free streaming.

An example of a flaw is a jacket, with patch pockets, having one patch pocket an inch longer than the other because they put one xlarge's pocket and one large pocket on a large size jacket.
I will get into more details later, but it gets better

Here is an email the owner sent me, apparently a carbon copy to me that he sent to his general manager and law firm or something.

"Hello [manager],

Thank you for giving up your week end to run this issue down for [company] and [website i ranted on]. As I read the e-mail sent by [Me.. I sent an email telling the manager I wanted a refund and he replied saying ok he'd sent labels for return etc, no biggie here].. He received a Jacket that was sent to him as a exchange and or return as posted on our site that we are running short on some sizes and if the member of [site] would please send back the size that is in question so we can give it to another member.. New not worn and not used.. if a person goes into a retail store said jacket is tried on but a very large number of customers.. This jacket in question was new and never worn.. as a matter of fact it is a new item and [me] had already known that.. He sent [company] an e-mail after customer service hours venting about [company] questionable dealings Sat. Morning and posted on [site] in an open statement causing damage to [company]. and Our good name and Repatriation.

We will keep all this information on file and if necessary will file suite for any and all Damages.

Regards,

[owner]

CEO

CC: [lawfirm]"

Email after hours?? Isn't the point of email that it can be read anytime... No one's going to be woken up by an email after hours.
One of the issues he was talking about was that I vented about the most recent jacket because 1) it was someone's returned jacket, ok, no biggie and 2) it had one sleeve that was ten times lighter than the rest of the jacket and overall very poor matching parts.

Bottom line, even if I report on the bad experience and degrade his reputation by just posting factual pictures and experiences, as long as I don't lie or tell nontruths he can't do anything right?

Hahahaha I really hope this is a strange way of trolling. No, he can't do anything to you. Except provide you with many many lulz.
