Racist deaths? You can't be serious...

it's painfully obvious that they kill a black character when they introduce a black character. i didn't read the comic, so I don't know if it's meant to be that way.

This is really bizarre...

Except that they've killed a lot of white characters too. Including the protagonist's wife. And Michonne has been around for quite a while and she didn't replace a black character.

Harvey, it seems like you're ignoring the race of the characters. Which is obviously pretty racist.

As Hoozah says, it does seem painfully obvious - another black character comes along - they bump off the existing black guy.

Perhaps this is the case and cultural bias (people, myself included are influenced to try and spot racism) or perhaps it's because I'm white, the black characters stand out as more memorable, especially with oft bandied about "token black character" around this show. In other words I'm spotting something which statistically isn't anything unusual compared to the white guys... it does seem that way though...

They killed Shane, replaced with another morally corrupt bad guy who is white...

Well, statistically speaking, blacks are over represented in the show.
But this is just stupid anyway. Michone is black and has stuck around, and they just added another major black character. And the first black character and his son never died . . . so, yeah, what whnay said.

No way over represented, Atlanta is more than 50% black.
It is incredibly obvious that they've killed off black characters the same episode they want to introduce new black characters. It's like some fucked up quota they have to maintain.
"Michonne is black" is a weak arguement. First of all her character is terrible in the show and I'd hardly call her a focal point. Second off, what has every other major character been? White.

They are not in Atlanta. The main character is white, take it up with the author of the comics (who is also white, as are most comic writers, I guess he writes what he knows).
And it's not like the white characters all live or something. Or the bad guys are all black. Get a grip.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying- I'm not overly sensitive about things like this and it stood out to me.

And they are in Georgia, just outside Atlanta. Well, I guess it's hard to say how far they've traveled but the first few episodes were in Atlanta at least.
If a lot of people independantly notice something like this it's at least worth discussing, I think.

This brings up an interesting debate. I've always wondered if black people would be disproportionately hurt by a zombie outbreak, due to three factors:

1) darker skin tone means that the zombie pallor is disguised somewhat. An extra second or two to identify might be all it takes to spread the virus to loved ones.
2) black people, especially outside of the South, tend to live in more dense populations. One would think that higher population density would lead to a quicker spread of the virus.
3) less money = less security.

However, I think a good argument could be made that an inner-city dweller would adjust to the hardships of the apocalypse a lot faster than a soccer mom.
