Shooting? - Page 3

+1 on the 870 recommendation; you can pick one up used for around $250 or less and it's a great gun. No point in spending big bucks if all you want to do is kill a few birds with friends. Faded, that looks like on hell of a time!

I don't mind the aspersions on my intelligence at all, by the way, so if they're going to be mixed in with good advice, keep 'em coming!

You're a small-minded idiot. And the Remington 870 is a very dependable shotgun.

People have been talking about an 1100 - is the 870 better? Like why would one prefer one over the other?

Also, is 12 gauge preferable for shooting birds?

I love to shoot, but hate hunting. The pistol range or shooting skeet is all the adrenaline rush I need...

Is there a reason you hate hunting?

I was thinking that one day I might want to get into shooting game for my own use at home.

The 1100 is a semi auto and the 870 is a pump. the 1100 will require a little more maintenance but wither will last a life time. 12ga is generally recommended for newer shooters because it puts out more pellets. Plus it's generally the cheapest ammo you can find. 20ga is a very good bird round as well. But the 12ga can be used for just about everything. Birds, trap, skeet, ect...

I'm with you there, like to shoot my SIG 550 (Swiss Army issue) on the range, but hunting would not be for me. I have some friends who love it though, but to become licensed in Switzerland is hard work.

I love shooting but I hate cleaning the mofos.

During my stint in the army and reserves, I've used M16s, SAW21, Browning .50, SAR21, Sig Sauer P226 and even fired a LAW.

Even tried an AK-47 and Uzi a long time ago when I was in some shitty province in Thailand outside Katchanaburi near the so called Bridge on the River Kwai.

Don't really miss weapons much. Not yet anyway as I just finished my reserves for good last year.

I love to shoot and I love to hunt. I shoot a Benelli Super Black Eagle 12 gauge. Very utilitarian gun. You can drop this sucker in a lake, come back a week later and fire the shell that is in it. I have fired tens of thousands of rounds through this gun and I can count the misfires and jams without taking my shoes off. That being said you can buy a good shotgun for a few hundred bucks. If you are a beginner I would suggest going with a pump as it will force you to focus a little more between shots. Also, buy a 12 gauge. The ammo is readily accessible and inexpensive for a 12 gauge. A 12 gauge will also allow you to shoot nearly every game bird imaginable as well as deer. Find an experienced shooter to go out with you the first couple times and ask for tips on how to become a better shot. This will drastically improve your experience. Hitting what you are aiming at is not as easy as you think it will be.

Nice! I prefer shooting handguns though. SIG Sauer 225 is one of my favs.
