What's the difference...what am I paying for?

I mean I see people here asking opinions for a $275 USD Band of Outsiders Blue/White striped shirt (http://www.contextclothing.com/item.php?id=1612). I MEAN TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS IS NOT CHEAP.

Why not settle for these from Sears/JCPENNEY and they're only at the sub $30 USD price point?

I mean where is the line that separates paying for quality clothing and then overpaying for an obscure name so you can think you have "style"?

I'm not trolling, but I'm sincerely interested in knowing why all the hype/elitism for finding obscure brands and then only buying BASIC ESSENTIAL products such as striped shirt (it's only a FUCKING BLUE/WHITE Stripe shirt, not a fucking glow in the dark neon pink/light sky blue striped shirt with a fucking gold encrusted buttons).

How will the construction be better? It's a shirt FFS. Don't tell me it's handmade or it uses special new age technology or some BS. I took a tour of a Abercrombie/Hollister/TOPMAN/Billabong/Quicksilver factory and the construction was sooo cheap and shitty that the owner didn't even have napkins to use when done eating meals, they used leftover materials from the construction process. What about the fabric? I've read in the BOO thread that the fabric is very light and breathable...why would I want to pay MORE for a shirt that has LESS FABRIC? Or is the fabric just created in a way such that it feels lighter as if I'm not even wearing the shirt? Also, I've read that the fabric wears down easily??? WTF does that mean...and then a user posted a link to Wolf vs Goat shirts saying for 175 they're much better...go figure a shirt costing $100 less is better than the $275 shirt. Of course the fit will be different, I'm guessing it will be slimmer, but can't you just buy a cheaper shirt and have it modified from a tailor?

Guys, why should I pay more to look better? Can someone explain this to me? What's the real difference between DIOR and WALMART jeans other than elitism?

No this is what I'm saying, WHY DON'T people do this? It's almost...no IT IS snobbery and just pure yuppy-like elitism to WANT to SPEND 275 on a shirt WHEN YOU KNOW it can be had for less and HELL PEOPLE EVEN SAID in the BOO thread that they WOULD NEVER PAY RETAIL for BOO...so why the hell do you guys do it?

If you look at his post history, it seems to come pretty naturally.

A member's join date to an enthusiasts forum isn't always the best barometer for their knowledge on the subject. However, more often than not, the newer posters tend to show their ignorance on the subject if they dive right into making dozens of posts a day instead of browsing the forum and learning.

P.S. typing in all caps doesn't emphasize your point. It just makes you come off as a touch erratic.

What's your real account? Good trollin btw lol

i do believe this was discussed before. Well, $500 BoO pants not $275 shirts, but you can draw the same conclusions http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/29/fashion/29ROW.html Another word comes to mind..."exclusivity." How does that fit into this puzzle?
