Chicken and dumplings

I had some leftover homemade chicken and dumplings for lunch today, and now it feels like I ate a bag of cement. I seem to get this reaction over and over again, which might be why I tend to eat them only under duress, but is there anything I can do to remedy this in the future?

Not really. Like most Southern meals, it was made to feed a person working in a field all day. If you sit behind a computer all day, the meals can be quite heavy.

so a man walks into the doctors office, and says Doc it hurts when I do this. The doctor looks at him and says, well then stop doing that.

So I should leave the desk and find a field in which to work, then? Could be tricky.

I don't understand what a doctor visit has to do with chicken and dumplings.

it means, if don't feel well after eating that, then stop eating that... some things don't need an explanation. do you get the same feeling when you eat a big bowel full of pasta? (yes, I saw that too). I suspect it has to do with a chunk of thick starch.

LOLOL, just being obtuse. No, pasta generally doesn't have that effect on me. Just c&d.

+1 Which is why our people are generally so freakin' fat.

That said, I looooooooooooooooooooooove chicken and dumplings. It's probably in my top 10-15 favorite meals. Not a good lunch food, however. It's better suited for dinner and relaxing afterwards. Most Southern food sucks for lunch, actually. I went out for soul food at lunch not too long ago, and I thought I was going to pass out for the rest of the day.

Exactly. Few things beat a big Southern supper followed by sitting out on the porch drinking and bullsh*tting.

I'm a huge fan, too. My mom does a great job with them. I'm visiting her next week so I may be able to get her to make it for me.

I am sorely tempted to give this a shot but the risk of being branded an apostate strikes fear into my heart.

What you do behind closed doors is no one else's business.
