Coconut water - Vita Coco, Zico etc

Anyone into it? I've recently gotten really into it, mostly for the taste. Definitely great hydration for a hangover. But what about other health / exercise benefits? Just another gimmick?

All fruits and vegetables are good for you. Its kind of like this: people got tired of drinking water from faucets, so bottled water was invented. In this case: people don't want to chop their own coconuts, so Vita Coco was invented.

Just bought some thanks to this thread. It's really tasty but sort of expensive ($5).

The 99 cents versions at the Asian or Hispanic market do it for me. I usually have a couple in the fridge for cooking and drinking. And yeah, excellent rehydration for the morning after.

Found a bunch on sale at the supermarket. My initial mistake was buying it at Whole Foods.

Coconut is very nutritious, not a gimmick at all. Just make sure nothing is added and minimally to unprocessed.

I have been drinking it for 2 years now. I always down one 11oz before bed after a hockey game and its what I keep in the fridge for when I'm thirsty in the middle of the night. Used to use Gatorade, but that just makes me more thirsty. I usually wait for it to go on sale and then buy all of it. My favorite is ONE, non-flavored, and used to be able to get 33oz for like $4.

Yes, just started getting on this. We've had a belter of a summer (so far...) here in the UK and it's been so much better than water at keeping my hydrated. I've been switching between Vita Coco (from Holland and Barrett) and a Rubicon blend with Pineapple juice. Good stuff.

thought it would be a good alternative to sports drinks but cannot find any in my area which isnt loaded up with sugar...

I swear by this stuff for hydration before my runs (and after) or if I'm jsut feeling thirsty. For a while Gourmet Garage had it as 2 for 1 on sale and I think I bought them out of it. It's not a gimmick - it's great stuff and a healthy and natural alternative to Gatorade or other sugar loaded sports drinks.
