Recommend a Bike for Me to BUY

MY criteria: $150 budget, should fit a 5' 8" male, most interested in road bike frame with straight bars, solid construction (hence vintage I guess), bike will be used for tooling around, 3mile commute to work and mayve occasional 10mile or so biking on roads and light trails. Find me a bike! I'll buy it I promise! Go!!

Jeff, just browse craigslist and give a couple a try. Keep in mind that whatever you buy could probably use a shop tuneup, maybe new tires/new chain, at least, so factor that into your cost analysis.

Oddly enough, my neighbor had a bike out for garbage pickup this morning that prob would've fit you (picked up by now). Suggest you hit up some garage sales.

Plus I'd need a lock and a helmet. I do check craigslist but I hate not knowing what's a good buy (apart from brand names like Specialized and Nishiki).

Do it for me!

I should add the bike should be within 30 miles of DC.

I really doubt you will find a used bike thats reliable for $150.

Anything considered vintage are gonna cost you about $1000-1500 for a road bike. You could probably get a real nice single speed for $300-500.

Well if someone grew up on toy r us bikes they are not gonna have a realistic idea on how much a bike is.

To this day most people don't seem to realize a really nice road bikes is 5 grand. You want to get the bike Lance uses it's 10 grand. You want the best colnago made it's 20 grand.

Seriously, I would just look on craigslist for an old 10-speed or something. You can always have them made into a fixed gear.

Very true as "upgrade" fever can run rampant, at least for me. For my last weightweenie project, I spent thousands on carbon fiber and titanium bits to get every last gram out.

I have the 7.2FX. I'm not much of a rider, but wanted something for tooling around and getting some exercise. I bought mine new though (on sale) and it was around $500 or so. I'm 6'0" so mine's a bigger frame. Still, for what I use mine for it's a good bike.

Yeah 7.2 as well. I think I paid $1100 for the pair. Glad I didn't spend anymore because it turns out my girl doesn't like riding as much as I do.

I had this fantasy that she was gonna love it and I was gonna buy her a 5k race bike and we would ride hundreds of miles every weekend. It was only a fantasy.
