civ 4 plays better.

civ5 has very bad ai combat, still random and getting rid of religion for some wierd ass cultural tree is just meh. upkeep is also crazy, forcing you to spam cottages and warmongering.

cultural is okay. did an occ cultural win.

That's not really a fair comparison. Chess is a pretty simple game and can probably just be boiled down to picking possible moves in advance.

With these types of games i'd be happy with just Call to Power 2 graphics (what's that 10 years old?) but good gameplay and a huge amount of different units/discoveries etc.
