Anyone Else Geeking for Civ Five?

I'm worried. Side law practice, serving on a few boards, eager young girlfriend, full-time job, etc... I already waste about five to ten hours a week on Civ IV. When Civ V drops, I know I'm going to be playing all night. Nerddom is hard to escape.

Don't worry, incessant playing of computer games is a fast track to solving the "eager young girlfriend" problem. That should free up more than enough spare time.

I'd actually be interested in playing it. I've always loved the Civ games, starting from the first one when I was a kid.

I would be but (perhaps thankfully) I'm pretty sure my computer won't run it.

Eh, I enjoyed them until I tried playing online. The more I played and practiced to be competitive online the more I realized this was not entertainment, but work. Never played Civs....but aren't they similar to Alpha Centauri? Now that was a fun game!

+10000

Loved those games! Those plus Warcraft 2 and Red Alert 1+2 is what got me loving strategy games.

didn't really like the "age" games, but i had a REAL bad problem with Civ for a couple of years. finally kicked two years ago (didn't really like 4 as much as i thought i would) and my wife is going to be VERY unhappy that you brought this to my attention.

If you liked Civ, did you ever play COLONIZATION?
That one was awesome. Sadly, I only played the original Civ, then COLONIZATION, then I moved on to Starcraft and the Age of .... games and never really got into it again after that. I'm excited for SC2. I think a few years ago I bought Civ 3, and it was so different from what I was used to and what I liked that I never played it.

I need a new computer at home and the upcoming release of this game is going to be the catalyst that gets me out shopping for it soon.

Civ 4 would slow down my computer so badly during the late stages of large-world games that it would take over 5 minutes to compute all the moves between turns. And I can run Crysis at 40 fps on high settings.

I am terrified of what Civ 5 will run like.

Nothing will beat Civ 2 or Alpha Centurai for pure strategic goodness.

Really? I never had any problem with it (although I did with Civ 3). I really like the series. I also loved the Total War series until the clusterf**k of Empire came out.
