I like to run around 5:00 a.m. and generally do anywhere between 6 to 10 miles. I cannot run on an empty stomach and I am not going to get up at 3:00 a.m. in order to eat something small but proper beforehand so I usually have some water and juice and then something small and quick like half a banana and a piece of toast or half an English muffin with peanut butter or a PopTart (not real healthy, but it gives me some sugar and substance in my stomach). I will usually eat a bit more as soon as I am done too - the rest of the banana and some yogurt or cottage cheese or a small bowl of cereal. If I run later in the day, I like to have not eaten anything heavy for about 2 hours or so beforehand and then maybe something else small and full of carbs about 30 minutes before running. I stay pretty hydrated throughout the day so that's not generally an issue when I run in the afternoon or evening.
