Pre cardio/run nutrition

What do you runners eat pre-run? My runs have been inconsistent - some days I feel great and some days my mind is willing but the body isn't. I haven't been paying too much attention to what I eat prior to my runs, so I am wondering if that's got something to do with the outcome.

What do you guys recommend for pre-run nutrition to have the best energy? I typically run 4-6 miles (somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes).

Mostly in the afternoon, between 2 and 5pm depending on when I can sneak out from work for an hour. Sometimes first thing in the morning, say 5-6am, but usually in the afternoon.

Nothing. Always some caffeine. If you're just doing 30-60 mins then you don't really need anything.

The most important thing is to make sure you are well hydrated. Water is fine unless you are running for more than an hour, then you would want to drink something with carbohydrates and electrolytes (sodium, potassium). Also, it would be good to eat some complex carbohydrates a few hours before you run.

Coffee and water and maybe a banana or apple for lil bit of energy.

i think it really depends on the individual, plus how long you are running for.

I usually don't eat anything pre-run if am I just doing a short 3-4 miler but if I plan on running 5-12 I will eating something solid like a peanut butter on some type of bread or a bar.

Cool... thanks guys. The consensus seems to be to just be hydrated and perhaps add a bit of caffeine and go. The evidence seems to point to me just being a wuss...

I'll just suck it up and do the distance next time and not while about it.

I take a spoonful of Manuka honey before any type of workout.

Give me a sugar boost and because my stomach is empty, I get the health benefits of the funky enzymes in the Manuka kind. Highly recommend this.

Caffeine is horrible for your body. Just buy some Spirulina and/or Chlorella tablets at your local grocery store. They will be located at the supplement/whole food section. This whole food gives you energy and tons of protein.
