I have been thinking about getting a furry overcoat like that, which can be worn 2 ways.

I have a similar coat in blazer blue and with a brown fur collar. Very Russian. I love that thing even though it's RTW and doesn't fit. I would wear this in a heartbeat too, if it did fit.

It's a bit much for me. But more power to you.

Agreed, Ebay is getting "Costlier(if that's a word), but where would you get something like this coat cheaper? Though it's true that NM last call, and Filene's often have great deals that either match or beat Ebay prices, as you say, I don't think you would find this coat or something similar to it.

As to the coat itself, sure I would wear it, since it has a "removable' collar!

Back to Ebay, in general I agree with our esteemed SF'er kitonbrioni, who often states that Ebay prices are either too high, or you can get the same item by shopping wisely, such as at STP online, or from the best sales and outlet prices.

Ebay used to be a lot better for a very fine deal or even a steal, but though it's possible to do that today(I think there's currently a thread about Ebay experiences, that discusses quite a few super deals),

I think that is a very cool combo for this winter (maybe we are thinking of ordering the same coat...LOL). Do you know if they do the colar/lapel part in different colors besides black? or is persian lamb pretty much just black

That is a very practical coat. I am surprised Josepidal hasn't picked this out for Boston climates along with a pair of chamois gloves, and a nice fedora. Perfect winter attire.

DANGIT!!! I wrote what amounted to a dissertation on this whole 'ebay is getting too costly' stuff ya'll keep saying and when I went to post it, I'd timed out or something, had to log back on and in the process lost everything I wrote. What's up with this new forum software?? Anyways:

Ebay vs STP = no comparison. Compare prices on Isaia suits for instance.

Also, does stuff on ebay cost more now than it did in the old days? No, that's a misconception, and I can speak from 7+ years of professional buying and selling. I used to routinely get $200 for well used Mani sportcoats, $300-$400 for vintage Oxxford sportcoats etc. back in the day. Why? There was no supply. You could count the sellers of high end clothing that knew what they were doing on your two hands. Now that we (professional sellers) have educated everybody and their brother on ebay, everybody and their brother is selling high end clothes. There are thousands of sellers dealing in this category these days. Supply is up, way up, and more stuff slips through the cracks at giveway prices than the sum total of everything that was listed in the old days.

Everybody is probably remembering that period of a year or so in 02-03 where a lot of guys came on ebay selling NWT goods for far far less than what they were worth. Think RLPL suits all day long for $300-$350. That sort of a business strategy is just plain stupid, and ends up in a loss at the end of the year. Those schmoes are long gone (go figure.) But not before they nearly bankrupted me and a lot of other sellers. That is something to keep in mind about selling on ebay - at all times, you are competing against people whose underselling will result in then very shortly going out of business!

Ebay is an absolutely vicious marketplace. Prices are what they are for a reason. Sellers that sell stuff to cheap don't last. Sellers that sell stuff for too much don't last. Believe me.

That does NOT look like a true Kiton product to me. Kiton would would never attach the Kiton label with those kind of stitching(seam), and never in white thread, only in black (macthing the label). Brioni or Attolini would attach the label in that way, but not kiton. The buttonholes are not Kiton like as well, but those could have be done by a local tailor, if the coat was originally sold with unfinished sleeves. But Normally most kiton clients do insist on kissing buttons.
