Yes, I have considered the Mojave - But in the UK they are asking £380 - That's alot of cash - Hence my interest in the Peregrine jackets at only £160. At that price I can buy both styles and still have change left over to take my wife out for a nice steak meal and a glass of wine

Is the Mojave really a Belstaff jacket? A brand bought by an Italian company, who move all production to a different country, get rid of the old designs and replace them with up-priced replicas, introduce naff leather repros of the classic waxed cotton designs and expend all their energy on marketing, and tie-ups with Hollywood, don't have much more in common with the original company, than these new pretenders, do they?

Rather like Solvair have become the go-to boot over Doc MArtens, the time is right for someone to produce proper Belstaff jackets, at a reasonable price, using the original material. If they stuck a union jack on it, it wouldn't be a lie, either.

Unless you've found someone actually doing this or you're going to order 50k from British Millerain and do it yourself with a sewing shop, what's the point of this post?

Well there's the thing. Here's a small UK business making it's product in the UK using British fabrics (from British Milerain in fact). I've ordered two be able to judge quality. You see I'd like to help take their products to a wider audience and specifically the motorcycling community (by adding armour and other safety features). I thought this forum would be a way of getting some reaction within the fashion sector and get some views on Belstaff and Barbour (which it has done).

Long time coming but I thought I'd give you my verdict on these jackets. They arrived in good time which was a good start. Both jackets were well made and they fitted well. the plaid lining was nice too. Quite close to Belstaff and I liked the fact the they'd used it to line the pockets too. I was a bit disappointed with the zips on both jackets - chunky - which is good but black plastic on a jacket of this style just felt wrong. It needed to be antique brass. The wax cotton felt lightweight, which is fine but I have a similar wax jacket made by a small firm in the UK (see pic below) which feels much heavier and as a result feels better built because of it. Overall as a cheap alternative to a Barbour or Belstaff they worth considering, but I felt they just weren't quite right - I just didn't get that buzz when I wore them. For that reason I returned them.

Here's a much better alternative. Please do contact me if you're interested as I can source these jackets for around £155 - £175 depending on the specification. They are tailor made which means you get it made to suit you and you can also choose between brown, black, beige and black or brown cord trim, pocket angled or straight even lining colour (plain black or tartan for example. Made in the UK fomr British Milerain fabric these are not cheap far east knock offs - They are well made quality jackets and at that price well worth considering.

I thought I'd add to my original post and share some pics of my new Frank Thomas jacket that I bought recently. Clearly a copy of Belstaff's classic Trialmaster, it's a cheaper alternative at only £160 and has some great features.

The great thing about this jacket is that it's a technical garment - it's designed for the motorcyclist who wants the protection of modern textile jackets with the cool look of the wax cotton jacket. Much like Belstaff's motorcycle range it offers elbow and shoulder armour plus foam padded back protection. You also get a zip out inner liner for the colder months (that's June through to March in the UK !!!!!). Storage-wise you get small zipped pocket on the inside plus a mobile phone pouch. There are of course four large pockets and a waist belt.

Cuffs feature a single popper - which is annoying as they are too wide for my (small) wrists so I would have liked at least another popper to tighten them up. The main zip is black and plastic (although looks metal) again, it's a shame they didn't fit a two way brass job for a more retro look.

Here's some pics, just after a ride out in the pouring rain !

They also offer a short blouson style too, being an obsessive I'm tempted to go for one of these too;
