How to open a wine bottle with a shoe... - Page 2

Does this only work with a dress shoe? Seems like a sneaker might not work given the shock absorption.

My cousin tried this, and the whole back end of the bottom exploded and tore up his hand really bad.

I would advise extreme caution on trying this.

(1) Standard U.S. dry wall is not an advisable tapping surface. You will damage the drywall, and most likely, as it will give too much, you will not extract the cork. European walls are generally plaster of paris and hence far denser and heavier. The second video was against a stone wall--this is risky as well, as the bottom of the bottle could break.

(2) Long corks will not work as well. Examples were with short, cork-based corks.

(3) Non-cork "corks" will not come out with this method--they are much more "stuck" in. The plastic makes a tighter seal with the glass.

Bottom line: If you have a short-cork bottle of wine and a brick wall or similar heavy wall, and a shoe with a decent leather sole, you have a chance of duplicating the above; however, be prepared for an epic fail with broken glass and possible injuries.

Somebody try it with soccer cleats or golf spikes.

No dice with a sneaker. Tried it last night. For what it's worth, it was a first attempt in general, so maybe my technique is off.

Here is another approach if you are wearing sneakers
