Amazon's Kindle accessories

I'm going to ask for a Kindle 2 for my birthday. I've used it before, as well as the Nook, and think it's the superior of the two.

Id like some recommendations for a case/sleeve and a light.

The official amazon case is ugly, but I like how the Kindle attaches to it, and how easily the cover can be flipped behind the Kindle when reading. Is there any other sleeve that looks better but still has the same great functionality?

The light is important to me. I read at night a lot. I know most LED light's I have seen have that ugly, shimmering, washed out blue glow to them. I want a soft yellow light. I've read a lot of reviews and it's pretty surprising how many of them never even mention the light quality. I dont care how well it travels since it will be on my nightstand most of the time anyway.

Are you sure they're still selling the II? The new DX something or other was supposed to come out I think yesterday (the 14th). I bought a II last week for the super reduced price of $189 (actually $139 & free S&H, because Amy has this warehouse deals thing now and mine is a refurb but sealed and with full warranty). Don't know about the light, does it power off the Kindle? (You don't have like a bedside lamp?) Make sure to buy the rubbery thing which goes around the edges ($4.99 on eBay). You're gonna love the Kindle.

There are 2 versions of Kindle, the regular, which include Kindle 1 and 2, and the DX, of which the new version was recently announced. I think the DX looks great, only because of the screen size, and the price is simply too high right now. It also limits it's portability. That's why I would rather get the Kindle 2. I do have a bedside lamp, but If I turn it on too soon after we hit the bed my girlfriend wakes up. Edit: Who is Amy, and where does she sell?

Cole Haan makes very nice Kindle cases. Amazon sells 'em.

Amazon wants $379 for something that only reads books? Jesus, no wonder Apple is massacring the competition with the iPad.

Nice materials, but sub-par construction in my opinion.

That's just the DX. The Kindle 2 is $189.

Sales also went up after the ipad came out, though a lot of that has to do with the Kindle 2's price drop.

Looks like they are releasing a new model with just Wi-fi for even cheaper. $139 I think?

my mother absolutely fucking adores her Kindle 2. Can't put the thing down. So, take that for whatever it's worth....probably nothing, but still...objective reviews are good n that.

Apparently the Kindle and Kindle 2 have been out of stock for 48 hours, perhaps presaging the announcement of a Kindle 3.

EDIT: announced today http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/28/n...on-and-189-3g/

^Nice, had been considering a Kindle but was holding out since it seemed a new version might be coming soon. Thanks for the link.
