Foods from the Microwave - Page 4

I know that some people prefer bacon in the microwave...obviously those people are fools and do not know the true chewy beauty of good bacon...but nevertheless the microwave can make good crispy, fat-drained bacon.

I have also seen a few frozen lunch type things that seem to have given up on the oven method. Either they don't include oven directions or they very strongly encourage you to microwave them. I have tried...and I think they are right (but they aren't that good either way).

Two things come to my mind:

1) Soup. Im not a snob and dont make mine from scratch. I buy the Campbells cans and like it. Pour it in a bowl, 60 seconds later, done. Taste is the same in about 1/10 the time of stovetop cooking.

2) Bacon (more specifically turkey bacon) I like mine crispy and eat it almost every morning. 2 minutes in the microwave and its perfect. Tastes great and again, takes about 1/10 of the cooking and clean up time as normal.

Your'e heating a can of soup for 10 minutes and cooking your bacon for 20?

* We don't have a micorwave, but I'd like one to reheat coffee sometimes.

Cleaning up is a bitch, so much faster when your only cleaning from the things you eat out of, as opposed to the things you also use when preparing.

If you have a rice cooker, have extra rice left over and saran wrap it in patties or balls when it gets to near room temperature, maybe give it a double bag, an then promptly freeze it, then you can defrost it and reheat it and it works well enough for fried rice and other cooked rice dishes. This probably applies to Chinese takeaway rice and stuff too, so nice budget food tip on the side there. That is the only thing I can think of that makes a microwave remotely handy, apart from the foods that I am ashamed to eat and will not talk about on the forums. Also, I eat a lot of high dollar food and drink when out and have no qualms about ditching it on a whim, yet I save and freeze extra rice....

Frying egg's using the left-over bacon grease, although really unhealthy, is as good as bacon/egg's get.
