I personally hate using gloves. They're for gardening. I tossed them a year or so ago and never looked back. I'd say get a wider bar would help. Chalk is eh. It dries out your hand (as it should), which makes it prone to ripping, which means you have to rest up to heal up.

As for chin-ups vs pull-ups, don't discriminate. Do everything. False grip, mix grip, chin-up, pull-up, gymnastic kipping pull-ups, bulgarian pull-ups, ring pull-ups, bulgarian ring pull-ups, L-sit pull-ups, L-sit bulgarian ring pull-ups. Why even stop there? Muscle-up on bars, rings, wide, narrow, L-sit.

Why even stop there? You can always keep going:

How to achieve this? Do I need handwraps?

this is wrong. your hand rips more often when it's sweaty and wet.

since i've started using chalk my hands never rip.

a wider bar might help relieve some of the pressure on your fingers.

What kind of shit are you guys doing that rips your hands? The only thing I tear are callouses but they're so thick I don't even notice. Try using a thumb-less grip, you might be squeezing the bar too hard.

I get really sweaty hands, and my hands don't rip on pull-ups. A lot of coaches have tried experimenting with chalk. From what I gather, they used to advocate chalking up when doing pull-ups, but they realized everybody's hands were ripping. So then they banned chalk on the pull-ups, and no more rips.

I'm not ripping my hands on pull-ups. The only time my hands rip are on my dl's. Also, I do have callouses. They're so thick and hard, I can't cut them down with a knife when they get too big and hurt. I have to take a sander to them.

As for thumbs vs. thumbless, that's also something I don't discriminate with. I jump up to the pull-up bar, and however I catch it is the grip I use.

I also forgot to mention, pull-ups on a rotating bar as another type of pull-up to do.

which is why you should use chalk. Have you tried it? it gives you better grip so your hands don't slide around hence no ripping.

i don't think any coach worth shit who'd ban chalk. ridiculous.

They don't ban chalk on everything. Anything with a barbell or rings, chalk is good. But there are certain pull-ups listed in that list I posted where chalk shouldn't be used, and some where it isn't necessary.

BTW, I do use chalk on my deadlifts, cleans, and snatches.

fair enough. i used to only use it on deadlifts and cleans, now i use it on pretty much everything.

Use a thicker bar or wrap those tennis grip tapes around the bar.
Used to have this problem during my days in the army, the grip tape really lessened the amount of blisters too.
