Swollen fingers after pullups

For the past few years, every time I've started to do pullups in earnest (i.e., a few a few times a day), my middle fingers on both hands swell, become itchy and bumpy and hard, and generally take on a grotesque appearance. Lately, it looks like I've burst some blood vessels below the skin on them. I used to do dozens per day when I was younger with no ill effects. Internet searches have yielded nothing. Anyone ever had anything like this from pullups or lifting?

I get them on the tips of my middle fingers too- it isn't too bumpy or itchy though, other people wouldn't notice. Try wearing gloves when doing pulling exercises?

Any good doctor will tell you not to do pullups.

they don't. The only real advice here is the one telling OP to use gloves. Get Harbingers, they are legit.

How would gloves help, though? It's unclear what exactly is going on - is it some kind of contact dermatitis due to the padding on the bar, or is it pressure related to attempting to pull my fatter ass (relative to younger years) up? I would seek the advice of a dermatologist, but I suspect I'd be told this is an idiopathic condition with no hope and no future.

Get gloves, see if problem is solved. It's a pressure thing, I suspect. Gloves may alleviate pressure points a bit, enough for blood flow.

Easy to test if that solves it, obviously. $20 for gloves is less than doctor visit.
