I love how there are no less than 3 threads dedicated to this and still, and its necessary to make another one. Id be facepalming all day if I was a mod. "Why was my thread locked?!!" in Buying and Selling mainpage Changes to B&S discussion - Was: do you think "SOLD bumps" ... should be banned? in Buying and Selling mainpage "Why was my thread locked?!!" this thread Transparent Moderation Log & Site Topics - Part II - this also probably counts too

I find that most people follow the rules here regarding free bumps. And when they don't, they get called out on it (as I was a few weeks ago, fairly enough) and stop. What I don't like is pro-sellers who just have eBay listings that they advertise in B&S and then, without dropping prices also bump to tell us that they're "ending soon" or that "more ties were added". If its not listed for sale here, it has no place in the B&S. They can pay to advertise with an affiliate thread no?

That way everyone's clear, the posters can't cry foul, and everyone sees the mechanics in action.

It might sound like more work for mods, but if they just changed PM'ing to "thread locked - see warn/ban thread" posts, it wouldn't be any more than current, plus the (ahem) whip visibility would help.
which would ironically bump the thread....

Totally agree with this.

+1

Ebay threads that offer no benefits to forum members should be prohibited, but if this creates more work for mods, I'm against it.

+1 - that's the biggest thing I hate about B&S, weeding through the actual listings versus the Ebay spam. It's one thing to say "okay, moving these to ebay since nobody was interested in my asking price here" and I can understand that.

It's another thing entirely when CONSISTENTLY their actual post is just a link to their Ebay store and a line or two of BS about how awesome their stuff is.

It is pinned, on B&S sub-forum, not on sub-sub-fora like FS:MC or FS:SW&D, etc.. I don't think that thread gets a lot of exposure.

In general, I get some value out of seeing a primarily ebay seller post here, even if there aren't financial benefits, in that I value the cross check within the sf community. The sellers know this and they get a +.5 from me for linking here.

That said, they get a +1 or +2 when they offer additional incentives to SF members. Which I think is in their best interests since, just like as a buyer I'm a bit more confident buying from someone in the community, they probably feel a bit more confident in the buyers for the same reason.

OT, but wanted to get my .02 in on this aspect.

Great Thread

but I feel sorry for the $5000 Kiton suit guy. His $250 drops have the same effect as the guy who sells used charity shop ties noone is interested in, and drops them $1 each day - which lasts forever.

Indeed. We don't have the time or the energy to handhold people. The rules are there for all to see. It's a seller's obligation to learn them, and PM me and j if there are any clarifications needed (which there should not be.)

I'm moving it here, now. It's not really needed in FS:SW&D nearly as much.

Is is OK to bump your own WTB in the WTB (sub) forum ?
I don't mind the ebay listings, because the sellers are always willing to give discounts to deal outside of ebay.
