I understand Delamotte to be another very good small producer.

I really rate Roederer - and it would stand up to food better than either than the others. Taittanger is a nice, inoffensive pre-dinner drink if you're having a lot of people over, but no more

The normal Ruinart NV is also pretty nice

delamotte is very, very good. so is agrapart. if you have a store that specializes in champagnes, particularly those from growers (as opposed to major houses), you can do very well at the $35-$45 price point. And Agrapart can usually be found under $35
