The single SMARTEST thing you have ever done - Page 4

oh, if you are qualified/on path to qualified for engineering, i totally retract what i said before. when i hear general studies, i think 'path to nowhere'...lost in translation i guess, my apologies. Best wishes with your career ahead.

It was indeed a bad translation, I found it on Wikipedia. It's the general path, just like high school in the US. There's some classes you need to take (like 6 hours of Norwegian during senior year. I love analyzing poems from the 18th century) and then you can pick a few of your own choice. It's the most common path, although most end up with subjects that won't get you anywhere.

I admire those people who say that marrying their wife was their best decision. It is easy to find a woman, harder to find the right one. I wonder if the same question is asked to your wife, what would be her response???

I only ask this, because at work, I am around a bunch of men who are content/happy with their marriages and a bunch of women who complain about their husbands.

Think I'm too young to answer, but I think sticking with my current job was a smart choice.

engineering degree was the thing which took the most smarts

most of the single events which could be considered 'smart decisions' were more often lucky decisions in retrospect.

i dread to think how things could have gone with a few wrong turns

I was admitted to a good law school and accepted the space. A month before classes were to start I realized I didn't ACTUALLY want to be a lawyer and withdrew my acceptance. I was lucky in that my folks supported the change in plans, which made it easier to admit that I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life.

Considering the current job market for lawyers, pat yourself on the back.

Me? It's gonna happen within the next six months. I'm starting to move things around and finalizing plans that'll allow me to start a new venture soon.

Not buying a house in a booming market in 2007 (which I was getting a lot of pressure to do).

Accepting my current job was a good one, a really, really, really good one. Getting an engineering degree was not a bad move, nor was going to law school. My current girlfriend though, hmmm, she may take the cake. ~ H

Definitely, 100%, marrying my wife. Most of the other smart things I have done in my adult life have been, in some way, an off-shoot of that decision. In addition to companionship and personal growth and all that, she's forced me to get my life together, grow up, and start working towards real progress professionally and personally.

I heard McD's has a very meritocratic path to the local manager position.

Buying eBay stock on the IPO and then selling it years later for a very nice profit.
