Bruce's acoustic stuff is still great. While Magic was actually pretty decent (Radio Nowhere, Long Walk Home), usually when he gets the band together and tries to do his regular stuff, it's cringe-inducing. Just horrible.

U2 has fallen off a bit, but there are still usually a couple of good songs on their albums now. Nothing like Josh and Achtung though.

But musical taste is, in large part at least, subjective anyway, so to each his own.

There are a number of books and CD's released overseas first and then in the other country.

^That ET looked really out of place.

The last import CD I bought was the U.K. version of The Strokes, Is This It? since it contained the single New York City Cops as well as "explicit" cover art.

I used to buy singles, maxi-singles, UK/JP singles for this very reason then after you've spent $$$ bands (most notably, belle and sebastian and the pixies) re-release them as 9 dollar 'rarities' cds you can pick up at barnes and noble EVERyWHERE it is annoying. I do like when bands do fanclub 45's though. I had several Ryan Adams fan club 45's for a while that were limited 1 off releases. Before Grooveshark, it was the only way to hear about a quarter of songs the white stripes had released... (red bowling ball ruth, candy cane children,...)

stone roses......the b-sides on the import singles from the first album would have made a better second album than love spreads

Yes, and I think Bruce has aged much more gracefully than Bono. Maybe if he stopped holding on to whatever weird vision of youth he has he could be "cool" again.

I lived in Japan for a while in the mid-1990s and would go out to a couple local record stores and buy Japanese-only CDs quite often. Some artists never seemed to have anything extra on their albums while some would have quite a bit. I have a bunch of Japanese only Beach Boys albums that all have one or two outtake tracks and some Grateful Dead albums that have some alternate takes on them. The most interesting ones I was able to find in Japan were live albums from Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos that I had never seen before and studio albums with all sorts of acoustic tracks and long jams on them. Another cool thing I was able to find over there were old collections or "greatest hits" albums that would be unavailable here in the states or would have an almost entirely different set of songs on them (I have a few like that from the Yardbirds that I still haven't been able to find any information about online). I was going through a classic rock kick at the time and I didn't really pay attention to much new music but I was still buying stuff by Pearl Jam, Ben Folds Five, and Rage Against the Machine around that time and they all always had an extra track or two. Pearl Jam was usually live stuff, Ben Folds Five was usually a cheesy cover or Ben Folds singing one of their songs in Japanese, and RATM usually just combined the songs from the corresponding EPs onto their full-length albums. I was also able to find a couple live RATM albums that I have never seen for sale here in the states (they weren't really that good though anyway). My favorite thing about buying CDs in Japan was that they ALWAYS came with a sheet inserted with a few extra pictures and all of the lyrics in Engrish and Japanese.
