depends on the item and cost (and mood)

Snipe with about 30 seconds left, usually have enough time for a second snipe just in case. Sometimes even if I haven't been beaten, I bump up my price with 5 seconds left just in case someone else snipes.

Sniping once with your highest bid at the last possible second is the most rational way to approach eBay bidding the way the system is set up. Anything else is showing your hand too early and you risk driving the price up.

Bid early to make sure I don't forget the auction. Then manual snipe in the last 20 secs. This is, of course, if my previous attempts to get the listing ended early fail.

Almost always a last second snipe. Otherwise, I'll make an offer even if that isn't an option. I figure it can't hurt.

Anyone know of a program that can submit a last second snipe bid for you if you're away from your computer?

It depends on the item.

If its something I want to spend less than retail on, i just look for BIN items.

If its something I don't need and am looking for a crazy good deal... I put in my max bid. If I get it, AWESOME, if not no biggie

AuctionSniper.com works great for me. It's web-based, so your computer doesn't even need to be on. Costs a few cents per snipe, you top it up with $5 or $10 and that usually lasts for months.

How much am I willing to pay, accounting for the risk that "it may not be what it looks like". I am influenced a bit by previous bids, but I try to be honest with myself and bid in the last 15 minutes. I feel little regret when I lose, and I never follow the last minute--second bidding.

I only buy vintage radio tubes on Ebay, which are rarely as they are described, but I know a lot about tubes, and I have never felt cheated.

I snipe, but only manually. I feel the automated programs are unsporting.

Awesome - I'm going to try that on the next item I buy.

For the life of me I can't figure out why bidding doesn't increase the end time. Each bid should increase the end time by 5 minutes. This sniping is straight BS - maybe because I suck at it.
