Haircut/Hairstyle suggestions

I'm lost. I've been playing with my hairstyle ever since I started college. I started out with a very shaggy do and I've progressively gotten more and more interested in retro fashion and cuts and so have been trying out shorter more clean-cut looks. However, I'm currently at a loss on what I should do since I've decided some of my choices have not been particularly flattering and the end result is that its not flattering my looks as much as they should be. Many of my friends particularly girls have said to grow my hair out again, but others have said to cut it rather short- which do you think would be better and how would I go about a longer look without it being too bulky? I have VERY thick dirty-blonde hair with considerable wave, a little bit of product and humidity really brings out curls rather easily. I'm 20, and I feel some of the more traditional looks aren't very flattering on me or my face shape and make me look much older. I have a bit of a baby-face, some angles are very flattering for me, and others I think give me a rather chubby look...I think shorter hair emphasizes that but was hoping for some others insight before I scorn it entirely.

If anyone can take a look and give me some suggestions? I've been thinking maybe a HUGE pompadour a la James Dean as a compromise between longer hair and yet a still retro style but so far I've been failing at constructing one.

The picture of me in the striped sweater is a most recent one. The longest hair, dates back to 2007.

Any ideas?

Yes, the fourth picture does make you look much older. Therefore, while it might be chubby, it's not a baby face.

The third picture looks best. To make it more classic, lessen the volume at the front-center and don't comb it forward as much on the sides.

I like the second one. I wish that I will also cut my hair as same as well. I think that I need more growth of the hair. I hope that I will find salon as well and cut the hair as far.
