Hemming Dior Jeans Picture Book - Page 4

i hemmed some old beater levis I have like this, because they have like an 8" hem which is far too wide for stacks. went well, except my stitching isn't as straight as yours, and the sewing machine wasn't strong enough to make it through the inseam, so the needle got stuck, and I had to do that part by hand.

I go to a tailor who also makes custom suits. The people who do the work are family members.

moving slightly off topic, does anyone own the MIJ silver selvedge? i have these, they never look good stacked or hemmed. the denim is really thin and papery, it never seems to fall well. a waste of £250
Maybe this is me speaking as someone that has worked with my family doing tailoring for years but I'm not sure what's so impressive about one of the easiest bits of tailoring there is. Still good on him for getting started. Wish I didn't live in a shoebox so I could grab a cheap sewing machine and fix up some of my clothes though.

I do the same but I have opposite style from almost all of his other clients so it sometimes takes a while to get the result I want.

On the subject of Diors, how do they fit? I'm looking to pick up a pair of nicer jeans, and I saw this thread in B&S. Wondering whether to kop those Diors or not.

I've usually bought jeans from J. Crew, Banana Republic, etc. in the past, and am a 31 or 32/30. Would size 30 Diors be a decent fit for me? Also noticed that the inseam is a 37 as opposed to a 30. I know that Diors usually run a little long, but pancake stacks are not for me.

TIA, oh gods of denim.

I think sizing down 2 would be ideal. I wear 33 in Levi's and take a 31 MIJ( I used to own size 30 and they were too small) I wear 32 in their washed denim. If you plan to hem them to a 30, I would pick something else. The stacking is what makes the trademark Dior fit! You can hem them a little like sq4you recently did and posted a thread about if you're shorter, but I wouldn't advise hemming TOO much because then you'd also be messing with the taper and they wouldn't fit right.

I tried this on my IH 634s last night. My antique sewing machine couldn't handle the inseam 6 x 21oz thickness. Also the stitching on the backside looked like ass. I'm going to seam rip it and do it all by hand.

silver selvage were the best Diors ever made, indigo 19cm. I miss my pair, would buy a pair in 27, 28, or 29 in a heartbeat.

You need a sewing machine that can go through leather at that thickness (basically a hand-eating industrial one).

This, by far. Do you know if they are discontinued for good? I have the blacks and wanted to go back and get indigos.

I wonder if even the old industrial machines would be sufficient for that, industrial upholstery sewing machines would be best (and cost well over $2k )

The needle was fine. I went to Walmart and got a denim needle just for this. The machine punched through the denim on the downstroke and then bogged down when trying to thread back through. Needs more power.

Walmart also carries cotton-wrapped poly extra high strength thread which is just the right color.

I have a couple days off so I'm going to break out the old needle and thimble.
