Generally, no. Sometimes, when done exceptionally well, and with proper accompanying music, they can be pleasant. But almost all of the time, yes, they are dumb.

Smoke bombs are a lot of fun though. Bonus points if you dump one in a sewage drain.

While in my house I hear it all around me. It's reminds of me of Lebanon (even though I was never there).

I saw some world fireworks competition in Vancouver last year that was pretty impressive. The one I saw was by China and had accompanying music. But generally they kinda suck.

Agreed. Although the M-80 that just exploded while I walked my dogs did give me quite an adrenaline high.

Not a fan of professional fireworks. Fireworks at home are lots of fun. The big displays lack the necessary human element, and are kind of boring.

You need a permit to set off fireworks in my state so they have a certain allure...

They are going off, making my dog bark, waking up my daughter. Right now I hate fireworks.

No. And worse than dumb. Scary and dangerous. An uncle, who lost a leg and most of his good nature at Anzio, on the 4th would sit deep inside his bungalow with the radio turned up real loud to drown out the crap and the oohs and aahs going on outside.

Yeah. But that was WWII and I don't think they used that term. Shell shock it was. More to the point.

Some 36 year old dude in NY blew off his entire arm in a fireworks mishap yesterday. His family found the arm, packed it in ice, and brought it to the hospital.

Dumb as a box of wet hair.

I prefer real warfare.

I'm not a fan. I did see the Memorial Day fireworks in Chicago from a boat on Lake Michigan, and that was fun; but I passed up a chance to see them here in NY from a boat on the Hudson. They're not my thing, so I had a great dinner instead.
