I've been fond of taking photos for several years already... firstly digital, then film... and now film mainly

I'm just curious if anybody else here is fond of photography. Let's share experience and pictures we make

These were made during my last trip to Spain two weeks ago:

oh, thanks! don't even know how i managed to miss that thread but there are so many and so old pages... it will take damn long time to look all them through And as i see there are photos by everyone who make them... may be not all take photography seriously as a hobby. And i haven't yet noticed there any film pictures. But if you think it will be better for me just to join that thread, not making a new one - no problem then.

What are you shooting, a Holga? The pictures are gorgeous, but I wanted to make sure the vignetting and light leaks were "on purpose." What kind of film are you using?

Thanks

I have several cameras actually, but these shots were made by Diana - i bought it in Hong Kong this winter. It is a lot like Holga - you're right.

I use different films, wide for this cam... i suppose this shots were made with kodac portra 400 or something.

vignetting is on purpose, but not the light leaks. i'm just easy and not very attentive while changing the films

Do you guys consciously try and compose the picture fiddling with manual exposure or are things more spontaneous?

I want to get better at photography, I'm just not sure how to go about doing that. I've bought a handful of photography books and while they are good and interesting, I'm not too sure how to go about applying them. I wish I had somebody to critique and tell me how to do things better.

I've always shot in aperture-priority (or damn near blind, re: toy cameras). Once I dial in the aperture/DOF I'm after, I'd rather let the camera handle the exposure while I shoot. In certain lighting when I know the in-camera (D700) metering is going to be off, I'll dial in exposure compensation and leave it. Composition wise, I play it by ear. Some awareness of the rule of thirds/golden mean/etc., but I frame as the scene presents itself. I miss working with film, but I just can't shoot much 120 at $15-20/roll developed with a basic scan, plus the cost of a V500/V750/etc. for better scans (or the cost of drum scanning).

Love the photos.

Actually been trying to get into photgraphy myself and signing up for a course at St Martin's here in London.

Have a million stupid questions and not sure where to begin....What's a good camera to start off with, etc.

17-Year-Old Thinks She's Getting Into Photography
June 8, 2009 | ISSUE 45"¢24

EUGENE, OR"”After wasting an afternoon taking pictures of a broken tricycle, moss on trees, and the shadow of a wrought-iron fence, Churchill Alternative High School senior Jessica Ivers falsely informed family and friends Saturday that she was getting into photography. "I love the way real film looks," said Ivers, who has owned the old single-lens reflex 35 millimeter camera for exactly one week, and named as her favorite photographers "probably Diane Arbus" and the French guy who took the picture of the boy with the wine bottle. "I'm really fascinated by textures, and I think I'll be able to get some good shots of my grandma's hands this weekend." Sources close to Ivers expect the camera to join her clarinet and yoga mat under her bed once she pays $14.85 to develop the roll of clumsy, overexposed images.
