Teeth Veneers

I have huge gaps in my upper teeth. It's always bothered me. I just found out about porcelain veneers. And I'm interested in getting them.

The threads I found about them were mostly positive. For those of you who have them, are you happy with them? Do your teeth look much better - even perfect?

Also, how expensive was it? Does insurance cover any of it? How long is the process, with surgery and recovery?

just get invisalign or braces if your teeth don't look bad and are in good shape. you're practically replacing a set of healthy functional teeth with fake ones for the looks. you are going to also have to replace them every 10-15 years or so. if it's a struggle already for you to pay the first set maybe it would be much harder to make the next ones. if they are just a couple though, like if you have a gap in your two front teeth, i would. if 6-8 on the uppers i'll have to think about it.

my dumb white trash uncle traded an old benz for his and his girlfriend's teeth. then he ran out of money. now he has these tiny pugish teeth from the veneers that broke. the ones that are left he has a cheaper dentist put back on. happens from time to time since he eats anything and doesn't take care of them enough not to munch on crunchy things. you are probably not as dumb as he is though.

My teeth look like this, but way worse: http://www.drmartinwarren.com/images...the_teeth..jpg

I'm thinking I could get the top four replaced, yeah?

you'd have to really go in for a consult. just maybe he'd say 6-8ish too. i thought i could actually get by with 6 but my dentist wanted 8 and he's so not the type at all to just replace a couple of extra teeth for the extra cash. when i wanted to do the lowers too he was really against it. actually he was a gum surgeon and was okay with it but i guess not really fond of the cosmetic procedure i was asking of him. so far i've decided against it because i don't exactly have ugly teeth. they're just not perfect. it was also the gummy smile i was trying to reduce. kinda like this: http://www.celebitchy.com/12038/geor...got_new_teeth/ what do you think guys? good work or should he have just stayed with his real teeth? and yes i am as handsome as george clooney so the effect would be the same on me. i wonder if there is going to be an alternative to filing them down and putting porcelain on them in the future? if so you'd be kinda sorry for having those pugish teeth underneath and the inconvenience of not being able to bite into really crunchy things. sorta like lasik. when my aunt first got it she said it was like a needle piercing your eye and she had to stay in a dark room for 2 weeks. i was down for a day, which i just slept through, and felt nothing with mine. at the time i got it though there was still no intralays.

Thanks, man. So you said it was $1200 a tooth. Was that all out of pocket? Insurance didn't cover any of it?

Do it. Teeth are important. Success will ensue.

im contemplating doing it but would be cheap for my i think since i only have a gap. i got very nice teeth, white and straight. They wanted me to wear braces for 2 years to get rid of it, i said HELL NO to that. not worth it. Depending on your age, braces might sound good but if you have the money get the Veneers and im 99% sure insurance does not cover since its cosmetic.

Do it. Make sure the guy is good and passionate about his work, but do it. I used to hate smiling- like would not do it because of the gap. I get comments on my smile now. It made so much difference that I'd recommend it to anyone who is self conscious about it. I had mine done for $900 a pop. It took a few hours, a few visits (they put in a temporary set first), a bit of pain (they sand the shit out of your actual teeth, and it doesn't feel good even when numbed), but it was all worth it.

Note that if you do get it done that your actual teeth will be fairly gross. Not only will the gap be there, but they'll be significantly smaller than when you went in there. It was kind of shocking for me when I saw what happened before the temporary set was put in. "Sanding a bit off" doesn't cover it. Also be aware that the first 24 hours is going to involve swelling and a bit of ugliness. I was kind of horrified with the results until my gums went back to regular size.

Long story short: do it, and do it well.

If you are planning on getting veneers and absolutely do not want braces or invisalign I would make sure your dentist knows what the hell he is doing. Veneers can look extremely natural or can also look horrible depending on the skill of your dentist. My best advice would be to ask your dentist to see some before and after pictures of veneer cases he has performed and/or opt to see a cosmetic dentist who has done many veneer cases before.

Also, many dentists use lumineers now which are about as thin as a contact lens so it limits having to remove large amounts of tooth structure.

Nice. Big. Chiclets.

I have them.

Kind of spendy, but the process is no big deal.

Ask your dentist about synthetic veneers. They are a cost-effective alternative. Instead of molding new teeth, the dentist essentially 'paints on' synthetic material (similar to that of a cavity filling,) and dries it with a UV light. It doesn't take long either.

It's funny you say this. I was thinking about it earlier, and practically every successful person I can think of - ceo's, celebrities, even athletes - have great teeth. Put another way, very few success stories involve teeth like mine.

Thanks to all the above.

These are my teeth:

I'm going to get a consult very soon. But, for now, what do you think of my teeth? How many would I likely want replaced? Luminous veneers don't seem like they'd be a good idea for me? Any insights would be great.

work on the acne while you're at it.
