Oh my...

Greetings,

I have one pair that are a bit special in the collection.  They are a bit different than some of the shoes posted here but were still bespoke shoes, so I thought I might share.

They were built by T. O. Dey shoes, New York City, for a national tour of the musical, Some Like it Hot, in 2002.  They are one of three pair built for a certain gentleman in the cast.  Since closing in 2003, the shoes have been stored on cedar shoe trees in shoe bags waiting to be needed again (though I don't think the original owner will be using them again, see note below).  Keep in mind, that these were not built for every day wear, but for the stage.  Most of us don't do musical dance routines in our bespoke shoes six times a week.  I think the blue needs to be polished but the suede still feels like butter after 10 years.

Oh, and that original owner I mentioned above?  Because national tours have hundreds of shoes to keep track of, the wardrobe supervisors, always label the shoes on the inside.  Look carefully, the name is Tony Curtis.

And finally a shot of the shoes being worn on stage.  I look forward to seeing these shoes used again someday.

Does anyone know how many cordwainers Japan has? It seems there's plenty of skilled Japanese artisans on various blogs these days.
