Not too much to it. It wasn't recently. It was some years ago.
I used to travel to London quite a bit on business. I wandered into their shop just to look around. They were nice enough to talk with me and let me watch them work. There was a guy in there getting fitted. He had a number of their shoes, and raved about them.
Next time I came back, I made an appointment and got fitted. I can't remember the name of the guy who did the fitting. We talked about leather, and I told him I wanted brown shell cordovan. He asked why, and I said that it was because all the shell cordovan shoes I'd seen were Blucher style, and I wanted some shell Oxfords. He said that they didn't like working with shell. He said that there was little or no room for error when working with shell, and it was much easier to ruin a shell shoe than calfskin. (I have no idea why that would be.) I described the shoes I wanted, and he found a pair in the shop that looked pretty close to my ideal. We talked about welts, etc.
Then, I got to pick out the particular skins that they would make my shoes with. There was a stack of the same color shell, and we went through the stack and picked out enough leather for two matching shoes.
He spent some time measuring, poking, and handling my feet and asking me questions about my feet, arches, thickness of socks, etc.
That was about it. Process from beginning to end was about an hour.
Definitely more time spent than at Vass, where the whole measurement process took about 1/2 hour.
A few months later, they sent me my shoes. I've enjoyed them ever since.

Thank you for sharing. I visited their store last July but I am satisfied with G&G.

Well I had thought of getting out my camera and take few good closeups over the week'nd. I still plan to do so but managed to click a few this morning.Pls excuse the picture quality and my naive photography skills..

Feel free to comment...somehow the sole, welt stitching sole finish and uniformity appeals more to me...

i should have thought of this. it makes more sense to wait for the 270 goyserer welt. actually, i prefer the transparent sole edges on the piergiacomos. although, i dunno if this is an option at vass. it can be done diy, though.

Fit was/is fine. I'd call it a "comfortable" fit, not a close fit. I tend to wear thicker dress socks than most folks, so it is a good fit for me.

For some reason, when I opened this thread, this was the first pair of shoes I saw. My eyes thank you!!

They look pretty close to how they did when new. Some differences, but the camera probably wouldn't capture them.

I have so many pairs of dress shoes that none of them get much wear, even with a regular rotation on my feet.

This is more true now than ever, as my current job is extremely informal and I wear dress shoes maybe once a week at most.

Yep lets wait. I do much prefer the transparent soles and not sure why Vass uses a paint which I have seen if scratched will be difficult to fill...

I don't know whether that qualifies as full bespoke - perhaps it is the next best thing. Either way the fit is better than any other shoe i've ever had.

Thanks, however your shoes and sstomcat shoes are not 100% bespoke, in my opinion 100% is only if you create your shape with your measurements, you create your design, and you can decide all particolar; but for that you and I need to meet...

Thanks for your congratulations.
