Learning Guitar - Page 4

Stretch your fingers and wrists before playing, just gently pull them backwards and hold one at a time. If you do a lot of other tasks with your fingers such as typing or writing this stretching will relieve a lot of tension that has built up throughout the day. They will get stronger and develop more endurance over time as you practice more. Then you won't have to gorilla grip to hold down the strings.

Yeah I've noticed my left wrist gets REALLY fucking sore quickly while playing. I didn't practice last week and I guess its just odd for a beginner's body (still) and I grip the neck too hard.

Any style of guitar is going to be equally hard, the difference is mostly about tradition - it's much deeper (and probably more hostile to outsiders) in Flamenco.

Guitar is cool, you should learn. I teach guitar, I usually recommend Bruce Emery's "Guitar From Scratch" as a first book. Kinda hard to find but my friend taught herself using only that.
