+1

Next time a long sleeved t-shirt and big hat are your best friends. Sunscreen is a false sense of security.

Don't forget OTC painkillers, I think ibuprofen is best in this situation.

Stay moisturized. I rub lotion all over areas exposed to sun to maintain my tan and prevent peeling.

Good point.

Thomas, take some aspirin. It'll cool the temperature and relieve some pain. For real.

At this point, It's pretty well mostly peeled off, excepting for a few blistered areas that strangely come up when I've been running...and then flatten back out once I'm dry.

Yesterday I kept a shirt on the whole time, and no burn to speak of.

Did you use sunblock?

Lolwut. So let's say I already have a 10% chance of getting malignant melanoma. If I get 3 second degree sunburns I then have an 80% chance? I'm calling BS.

Yeah, I don't trust that figure much either, but sunburns aren't good for you at all.

I think we've been over this already, but leave the blisters alone, rub aloe on it, drink a lot of water (helps a great deal), and stay out of the sun.

Malignant melanoma probably not. However your chances of developing two forms of skin cancer does dramatically increase the more times you seriously burn.

My issue is more with the "doubling each time" than the type of cancer. Im not doubting that getting burned/badly burned substantially increases one's risk.

I'm not sure how it works, maybe it is meant double the risk compared to regular sunburn? I do remember reading that the 3rd time you get blistered sunburn, you are at high risk for developing the cancer.

I'd always figured that I start around 1 or 2% probability (1 in 100 or so), which makes doubling it not such a crazy proposition. This, btw, is the second blistering sunburn I've had ever...and fwiw I tan easily but seldom burn. Probably should use more sunblock.
