Wore them mostly as a kid. Still like them though.

According to this poll somebody who is 25, or 35 can appear in two different categories. It should say 26-30 and 36-40, am I correct?

I've always had a distaste for tassels and I've only noticed men over 50 wear them. I don't get them.

I'm not asking in terms of being insulting, but rather am sincere... if you wear tassels, how old are you and what is it about them that is appealing? Is it a case of being traditional and were they more fashionable at another point in time and are considered a classic look today? Or is there some other reason for their appeal? How do you rank them with other shoes?

I'm keeping an open mind so I'd love to hear what people have to say.

They are quite fashionable right now. Lots of them on the Sartorialist. This year's Ralph Lauren had almost all the models in tassel loafers.

I wear them with sportcoats, not suits (although I used to do that). I have Aldens in walnut calf and brown suede. Have had them in black, brown and tan calf and burgundy shell cordovan over the years. Great shoes. While I am in the (just) over 50 group, I've been wearing them since I was in my 20's. And yes, they are a part of the "attorney's uniform."

I wore tassled loafers in my 20's and was ridiculed for it by both male & female friends & peers (1980s).
In my 30's I wouldn't go near them.
Now in my 40's I wear them again. I have several pair by Allen Edmonds and enjoy all of them.
Only my Graysons in black calf are used for the office. The others get weekend use only.

And on topic, I have a pair of cordovan shell Aldens, and a pair of black calf AEs.

I do not wear them...and have observed in court, only old Judges and lawyers in retirement age wear them.

You should also poll people on their height. IMO, tassel loafers are best executed on a tall/slim/kinda lanky guy. The line between dapper and dowdy is especially fine with these shoes IMO.
