The IPO went through today...wtf? Where did all the venture cash come from? I wonder how much of the stock was bought using PayPal?

Funny how markets got slaughtered today and the Tesla IPO got a huge first-day gain. I read that they sold less than 1,500 cars since its inception. What are they going to use the $200M for? We're still not at the stage where we can just plug it in and go. People will buy anything new.

Elon Musk pocketed 20 million today. I wonder if there are any tax credits available on account of the green aspect of Tesla. Tesla could turn out to be a great tax shelter but less of a manufacturer.

Might be a good idea to short the hell out of it until they can make something that rivals the Prius (at the same price range) or Guvernor of Caleeforniuh forces all gas stations to have superfast battery chargers.

They certainly aren't making cars with that money.

i read (in the economist i think) that elon musk is now working on private spaceflight sounds like he's put tesla motors on the back burner, because he's got a much higher-profile project to focus on

isn't one of the principles broke after his messed up divorce with his wife. I found it strange they IPO'd after reading that story.

Interesting article from a few days ago He's a smart guy, its a visionary idea and may or may not work out but I think he intends to do everything possible to make sure it does. He has a lot of serious VC backers with deep pockets as well. The spaceflight idea is a side venture, he spends most of his time with Tesla.

he should make some high production HD commercials with david bowie reprising his role as Nikola Tesla and being simultaneously scary/creepy/mysterious/riveting/pure awesome - driving around in that car.

If anything, that is a good sign that you should avoid his next venture at all costs. You can probably count on one hand the number of people that have been hugely succesful in two entirely different industries. I'd feel the same way if Steve Jobs started making cars. He was interviewed on TV and really had no answers to the basic question, "how are you going to sell more cars?" His response was basically, "how long are people going to keep doubting"

Daniel Day-Lewis would be perfect as Tesla.
