Critique my jean fit - Page 2

if you can't see your dick, they're too loose

Does the inseam on these usually shrink?

I bought my 501s (first STF/raw) in 33x34 when my inseam is generally more of a 30/31 because the label said to size up 1 in the waste and 3 in the inseam.

Jesus, what's the rise on those, 13 front/17 rear? Try a different cut.

I do have pretty big thighs, though. It's hard to tell from the picture. It's why it's hard for me to find jeans, because my quads/hamstrings/thighs are bigger than my calfs. And I have a big ass.

I took these back.

If I'm looking for another cut, what do you guys recommend? I tried on a pair of Levi's 514, which are apparently "slim fit," but they seemed baggier than the 501s! WTF? Any other brands? I own two Diesels, Vikers, but those are lower rise and I'd like to get something a little higher so I could wear with button-down shirts, which was why I thought a pair of 501s would be nice.

No. You don't. You can't find jeans because you think jeans are too tight; they aren't. If you do what this forum does and you don't wash, your "tight jeans" will stretch out to become "well fitting jeans." I had, and as someone pointed out, almost every noobie has had, the exact same reservations that you have. Trust, dude. Trust.

Fair play, I'm new to this. Would you say that this pair fits fine enough, though? I kind of agree with totally_disgruntled, the ass isn't very flattering. I exchanged the 32x30s in the original post for some 33x32s, which I plan on hot soaking to shrink a tad and then hemming 'em. Bad call? Maybe I should try some other brand. I'd like the lower leg a little slimmer, but maybe that's not a good look for me. Thanks for all the help thus far, guys.

The word you're looking for when you're talking about your calves being smaller than your thighs is "taper." What's your height? If you're shorter, lower rise work better. I like taper and low rise, and like you I have big-ish thighs. Sized up 511's are a good fit for me. For a little more money, naked and famous weird guys are good.

sized up 511's are probably my favorite levis, the size 33's (or 34's? i forget) fit kinda similar to my size 28 apc ns, but the 511's rise is lower and leg is a bit more tapered.

i mainly had to size up to get my calves to fit in them though.

Wrong. A higher rise lengthens the visual line of your leg and makes you look taller, lower rises shrink your legs visually and call attention to the fact that you're short.

You guys are all wrong. The correct answer is he should have sized down 3
post #27 of 30
size down 4 for a sufu fit

Actually now that you point it out, we're both right, though in different ways.

Rise is about proportionality. I have long legs and a short torso, so lower rise jeans work my body type. Shorter dudes with more proportional torsos should have higher rise jeans.

Yeah, this is the kind of jean I want!

I'm 6'1", 175lbs. My two pair of Diesel viker jeans are lower rise, which is cool and all, but it's hard to wear OCBDs with them, as the lower rise doesn't help the shirts stay tucked in.

I'm guessing 501s aren't the best cut if I want a tapered pair? I think I'll try the 511s... what other brands? You mentioned Nake and Famous Weird Guys... I'm not adverse to spending more money on jeans, I just want a good fit.

I exchanged the 32x30s for 33x32s, and I was thinking of hot soaking to shrink 'em and then hemming them, but maybe I'll just take them back as well.
