I remember being puzzled at the Seattle protests. I really don't understand why globalization is such a bete noir for the anarchists/leftists/sundry malcontents. I guess these are all the same people who all uncritically agree that the Palestinian cause is the most pressing human rights issue in the world, simply because that's what they've been told to believe. They demonstrate how much they refuse to be brainwashed by the man by succumbing to their own form of regimentation.

Ah, yes. "Die Pigs". Clearly, the issue of globalization is first and foremost in their minds.

If they had some mechanism for charging the police depts. budget for all the damage they failed to prevent you might get more cost effective policing.

I bet a lot of this one billion dollar figure went into stuff not spent or used during the G20. Look on the bright side. They now have the money to replace the cop cars that got burned. Of course if you are the owner of a Starbucks you are SOL.

look, you can't blame the cops if everyone is always giving them shit for being a little rough with assholes. in the morning breifing the chief of police should have offered a 2 week vacation to anybody who shot dead a rioter. that might have gotten some results.

i think all the starbucks are corporately owned, so are the american apparel stores.
not defending the protesters, but they are well organized and only targeted corporations. no civilians and local moms and pops stores were vandalized.
at one point some goons were trying to flip over a BMW outside the police headquarters and the head protesters stopped them and said "that's not our enemy". this is via the toronto star

All this havoc apparently is at the hands of just a few hundred pretty organized rioters. I'm reading that most of the protestors (4000 or more) were heading one direction when the Black Bloc started running the other way and all hell broke out.

ok, mike, so you are an old hippy - what are the protesters thinking? even the non-violent ones? what is the idea behind all this?

WTF? RCMP and water canons please. Biting attack dogs might be worth a few laughs too.
