Protests have gone violent.

quick facts:

1 billion dollar budget for security for the G20.
at least 5 cop cars were set on fire.
Bank windows smashed.
People arrested carrying axes, bats, and hammers.
All mail boxes and garbage cans (and anything can be used as a projectile) were removed by the city from the downtown core.
protestors took apart the medians in the middle of the road and used those bricks to smash police cars, news trucks, and stores.
all local businesses were spared.
protestors only targetted big corporations.
hospitals and office buildings in the downtown core on lock down.
12,000 police set up in the downtown core.
10,000 protestors were expected today.
A small minority were violent, dressed in black clothes and black masks.
news channels called them the "black bloc".
Obama touched down today in a helicoptor (the marine 1)
2 meter fence built around the metro toronto convention centre where the G20 is held.
30 arrests today so far.
more riots expected tomorrow (sunday).

A lot of stupidity going on, although this whole G20 summit was poorly handled from the get go. Luckily I missed the riots, but I foolishly decided to head downtown in hopes of getting some shopping done. I figured if I avoided the main area I'd be fine. Eaton Centre had to be shut down (it was in the process of shutting down once I got there). I had to walk back to Bloor as subway service past Bloor was also shut down, and there were no shuttle buses. Even more foolishly I was pulled back by a cop from a curb as a bus (presumably commandeered by police) turned a corner. I thought I was standing far back enough, but I guess not. Was a bit shaken up (and rather embarrassed) by it. I eventually made it to the subway station in one piece.

Useless fucking animals. I guarantee a large percentage of those "protesters" couldn't even name half the countries participating in the summit, let alone actually oppose their views. Fucking scum.

What happened to all the LTL weapons and LRADs and water cannons? Isn't that what they were supposed to prevent/stop if it occurred. Surely the cops have the means to shut these people down?

ok, how is this an acceptable form of protest?

The idiots out destroying property should all get nice prison sentences.

I'd piss on a sparkplug if I thought it would do any good.

I just want to know where this $1bn on security is going if not to protecting local business and dispersing/arresting violent protestors. In all these photos, I see a lot of violence and very little actual police action.
