Haircut for college

I just graduated from high school and I'm leaving everyone I know to go out of state for college. So I definitely want to make a good impression and look good. Reasonable, right?

The problem is that I've always been very self conscious about my hair. It's a little wavy and flippy which causes problems for me unless I pay particular attention to it. I also have a long forehead so I have to grow my hair even longer to get to the proper lengths.

So I suppose I want some help, since you guys apparently know your stuff. If I posted pictures of what my hair looks like now and one with my hair pulled back could you guys help me pick out a hairstyle that fits me and my face?

Thanks for any help!

Something that is longer than 4 inches, and not emo will always stand out with todays late teens/early 20-somethings.

Alrighty, I just took these earlier today after I got out of the shower.
(please don't mind the goofy eyebrow, didn't notice the hair was pushed over funny lol)
So what do you guys think would look good?

Something you can arrange in one minute or less with your fingers when you roll out of bed with a hangover and are running late for class.

I'm a student and I would say your current hair style is similar to the guys at my college.

Within the first 6 weeks you will die is a stupid colour and it will only get washed once a week. Just leave it as it is and go mental over the next few months.

Your forehead isn't that big. I'd cut the front short enough to stay out of your eyes (to avoid the justin bieber look). Your pics above look completely different.... hair in the face = teenager, hair slicked back = 20-something. Are you trying to look older or younger? I think you should try to look older, you don't have anything to hide.

I'd slightly disagree with that. I mean don't look like a 14 year(hair down) but don't slick your hair back trying to be a 1980's exec either(or even something more modern), it looks like young people trying to hard, and just from the pics, it's clearly not your thing.

Your hair line reminded me of this guy(might not be totally accurate, but my brain makes a connection some how) so might be worth considering looking at what hes done over the years.

Also, for pics about your hair, put a shirt on.

Whatever you decide upon, don't go around making that weird expression with your face that you're doing in both pics. And do something about those sideburns, hippy.

The cut you get it's only going to matter if you go back to the same stylist and keep getting that haircut often. You'll likely want to use your money for other things. Keep your hair simple. The faster you can make it look presentable after waking up, the better.

I suppose I would like to look older, considering most people think I'm a sophomore when they meet me, not a college freshman.

Well, I DID just get out of the shower :P

I wasn't pulling my hair back expecting that to be an option for me, I just wanted to show you guys my hairline and my facial shape, hoping you guys could point out a few hairstyles that fit.

Looks fine .. The trick with university is to look as good as possible with minimal effort. I always wore hats, as cutting/styling my hair in winter wasn't worth my time.

Things to avoid:
1) spiked hair with frosted tips
2) douchey attempts at facial hair. Either let it all shag out (which I doubt you can), or shave it off. For your sake .. no chin straps or goatee's.
3) Your face looks too thin for a faux-hawk .. so might want to avoid that too.
