Marlins can their manager - timing?

Not that this is a huge story or anything - the Marlins canned Fredi Gonzalez, plus two of his assistants.

What confuses me is the timing - mid-series, on the road, coming off a win. WTF? Is this common and I'm just not usually paying attention?

(caught my attention this time as they just routed my woeful O's last night.)

When the best player on the team blasts you, you're not long for managing.

its probably more about keeping hanley ramirez happy in the long run. if hanley demands a trade then the marlins are fucked.

well, they went from overachievers to underachievers in short order.

This canning was a long time coming. Loria (Marlins owner) and Gonzalez don't get along. Loria's cheap ass thinks we should be making the playoffs on a MLB-low payroll, and was very disappointed when we missed out last season. That expectation stood for this season too. After 70 games of sub-.500 ball, they made a scapegoat out of Gonazlez. Everyone will win in the long run, though: Braves will get Gonzalez to succeed Cox, and the Fish will get Bobby Valentine (a good friend and long time target of Loria's).

Ah, I didn't know this. Maybe that's why he's out of the running in Baltimore. That and Baltimore sucks and has no chance of winning until 2013 at least.

Yeah he apparently pulled out to "go in another direction." I think that direction is "south."

It was time for Freddy to go. He got put in a tight spot by Ramirez and eventually got screwed. All the other players seemed to like him so it will be interesting to see how this affects the locker room. If I were Loria I'd trade Ramirez.
