paying to fly out for a second interview

Should I be pissed? I got a second interview for a dream job in a city that I more than love. It pays well and the work is interesting. I got selected for the first interview out of 537 candidates so I feel lucky about just making it to the final round.

However, they are making me pay for my flight out there--almost $600! It's a government agency. Anyone else interviewed with a federal gov't position when they didn't pay airfare for a 2nd interview?

This is seriously going to affect my clothes habit!

Suck it up. Federal agencies don't pay for transportation. In this job environment, if you don't do it, there'll be 10 replacement candidates at the click of the Send button.

I can't stand working for the government.

In my experience federal government agencies do pay for transportation, but definitely suck it up!

Here's a post of mine from a few months ago asking a similar question: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...=pay+interview Includes poal! (which ended up tied) Good arguments from both sides. Good luck with your decision!

I did for my current job, and I now can make the ticket price by sitting here posting on SF for 8hrs a day!

I don't like policies like this, but at least the cost of the trip is tax deductable.

Annoying, yes, but if you really want the job, and you think you have a good chance of getting it, then this is a small price to pay in the long-run.

Yeah, I'm sucking it up. I really do want the job. The director is double checking, but it looks like I'm not going to be buying anything off the forum for a couple months

Dream job...good pay...great city....

Six hundred bucks may be a chunk for you know, but if it's at all possible, do it.
