Hi All,

I need to prepare as it's happening this Wednesday (I know, last minute). It's her 40th (though she's very much still a kid) and it will be a nightly cruise. Lots of drinking, no dinner.

I normally would bring a bottle of wine or handle, but there will be a bar on board.. I'm lucky to have been invited but to be honest we haven't kept in touch for that long so I don't know much about how she's been. From what I remember I do know she likes to travel.

I'm afraid if I bring something tangible, it will cause problems in terms of transporting it from the dock to her house.

Should I assume she just wants my presence there or is coming empty-handed just plain rude?

To offset the process of large tangible gifts (which need to be transported) I'd assume tickets to a show/dinner or gift cards are the way to go, but that just seems tacky.

Should I ask planner if I'm allowed to bring a handle of liquor or wine?

You could instead ask the planner if gifts are expected/accepted, and what might be relevant. No guess work that way.

Water-wings, an inner tube or a fishing pole. At least she'll think it's funny if she is still "very much a kid".
