Can someone help me compare the amount of calories between the three exercises? In other words, I want to see / compare how much swimming = how much running = how much biking. Since running on a regular basis is pretty much out of the question, I'd like to be able to compare the other exercises to see just how much running I would be doing. I realize, of course, that not all three exercises are exactly equal (swimming doesn't burn as much fat because of temp., less gravity in water, etc...) I'm just trying to get a general idea if possible. Swimming and biking are going to be my new cardio activities.

Yeah, I've been googling but I'm finding a lot of contradictory info so I'm curious as to what the geniuses at SF have to say about this topic. Some say running burns more calories (which I believe). Some say that swimming burns more calories than running but running is better for weight loss because one's body temp stays the same when swimming. Whereas, running or biking maintain a higher temp after the exercise resulting in more weight loss? Or, something like that.
So, it seems like the calorie burning of the exercises are pretty different. Plus, since I was kickboxing before I hurt my knee and I'd like to go back to kickboxing, I'd like to be able to compare what kind of shape I'm in doing exercises other than running to what kind of shape I was in when I WAS running. Of course, I'll probably be better off just continuing to google it as opposed to posting about it on SF.

If drying yourself after a shower burns more than 2x the calories of an hour of vigorous sex... I think you are doing something wrong. Maybe you need a bigger towel?

Except you don't do desk work 24 hours a day. Sleeping and watching TV burns much less calories. Plus, you aren't taking into account how much you eat.

I would say swimming is on par with running for calorie burning. But if I want to lose a few pounds, running (and cycling) works much better since I'm not that hungry afterwards. For cycling, you have to spend a lot of time on your bike or push yourself really hard for about 90 minutes to get something equivalent to a one hour run.
