I will soon be traveling to Seattle for the first time.

I would like to pay a visit to Vancouver, BC while I am there and would like some recommendations on the best way to get there. I will not have access to a car while there.

My budget is limited, so any suggestions would help. Rail, boat, plane or bus, please share your opinions and experiences. Thanks!

PS. I am traveling with a vegetarian (no fish) and we will be in the Downtown/pike place area of Seattle. any suggestions of eats? Also, what are the hot cafes? Im a huge coffee drinker and want to do it REAL big.

I am a vegetarian and live in Seattle when I am in the states. You will be balls deep in vegetarian places here. Depends on your price range. Rail or bus is cheapest. Boat is no good and flying is more expensive. Look at Amtrack first, pretty cheap and not a bad ride because it is only 2-3 hours. What is the name of the place you're staying at? Pretty much every neighborhood in the city has a lot of vegetarian options. And you should probably google the transport options rather than get advice from StyleForum.

^ +1. Also, depending on your Sketch Tolerance, you might try looking for a rideshare on craigslist.

Yeah, Amtrak is the first thing i looked into. Did not know if there was some local secret bus that does cut rate rides.

Oh many. dish the dirt on veg restaurants . We are staying near the Nordstrom and Barneys downtown. We have been cruising Yelp! but any rec's you could give would help. We are very eclectic eaters: Indian, Thai, Shanghainese, Cantonese, Beijing style, American, ANY European country, Mediterranean and more. Please advise some places for a quick bite at a reasonable price and somewhere for a night with a special someone

thanks again!

For coffee: http://www.stumptowncoffee.com/locations probably want to do the original starbucks in Pike Market. Beecher's cheese for some macaroni and cheese fits vegetarian.

Another option is doing a Ferry to Victoria BC then to Vancover and back. That would be kind of interesting, it will add a bit of travel time but will be scenic. Train will obviously be cheaper, but this will be more memorable perhaps. 2.5 hours to Victoria and 1.5 hours from victoria to Vancover I believe...no straight ferry from Seattle - Vancouver I think.

I used to work on the Clipper. It's expensive this time of year and then you have to take a bus to Sydney, a BC Ferry to Tsawassan and another bus to Vancouver. That would bring it to around $200+ for a one way trip and take a long fucking time. Also, he said he doesn't have a car so the Blackball Ferry out of Port Angeles is out. And no, no straight ferry from Seattle to Vancouver.

Will do in the next 24 hours (when is your trip?). Actually talking with the Mexico City office now and only posting when I can't understand what they're talking about.

Oh, also, you might want to hit up Vivace, which is an esteemed espresso bar on capitol hill. You can hop the #10 or #11 from downtown then get off somewhere near broadway and walk north for a ways and it will be on your right (near Than Bros. Pho).

Amtrak is your best bet. Victoria is nice, but I don't think there's much point trying to do both that and Vancouver on the same trip. My fav coffee is Victrola, you can walk there from downtown, it would take maybe 10-15 minutes depending where you're staying. Also Ladro is pretty decent and not far away.

If they're staying in Belltown, they can walk a few blocks up the hill If you searched, you would have found at least one large thread already discussing a similar topic (as to things to do in Seattle)

I always just used the greyhound for trips to Seattle myself... but that's on the cheap and (relatively) quick.
