Tie Swap-Box Idea

A few weeks ago, I passed along the fragrance Swap-Box that Master-Classer started up. If you're not aware of how it works, basically you sign up for the box, take some fragrances that you like and put some of your own back in and send it off. It gives everyone a chance to sample some new fragrances. It's a great little thing and has worked out very well.

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a "Tie Nut." I love neckties and I'm always on the lookout to add to my collection. I'm proposing the same idea as the Fragrance Swap Box, but with neckties.

Is there any interest in something like this?

Basically, I would start it off and send it to the closest person to me that has signed up. He will take a tie or two and then add to the collection and then send it back off. Eventually, we will have a nice collection of neckties for people to sample and/or wear. This has to work on the honor system and would only really work if people are willing to part with some decent product - not Stafford and such.

I'm interested in hearing the feedback on this!

This sounds pretty cool. I'd suggest keeping an inventory with a google doc spreadsheet similar to what we did with the thrift store trading post.

The only problem is, how does the guy who started it get anything in return?

So when you get the package you fill the spreadsheet with what is there, and when the next person gets it, they can see what changed. This would discourage a guy from taking 3 BB and replacing it with 2 Van Heusen's.

Well, I'd be the first one to start - so I guess I'll be taking one for the team at the start. Once it has gone through the list, it will come back to me and I'll get my crack at it. After that, start another list and send it back around.

Secondly, I like the idea of the spreadsheet to keep track of what has been taken and what is being added. Unlike the fragrance box, those were mostly samples. With this, you're required to put an entire product.

Anyone else have interest or more ideas?

Will you include the pink cashmere Attolini?
