Never happened to me. I always measure first, or have the company that delivers it measure it for me.

Surprised this took so long.

I barely fit my 3-seat couch up narrow flight of steps and around a corner to get to my place. The biggest issues was not that it wouldn't fit, but the awkward carrying positions required for two people carrying it to get it in. Thank god the think was not overstuffed/sized and had a high back portion.

To be fair, I used to deliver furniture myself as a summer job. So I have some experience with other people buying furniture that wouldn't fit.

Now I have my own stores we offer a measuring service for our customers.
