Sad news. Guy was trying to do a lot for Sudan. RIP.

He put off a return to the USA, and much needed dialysis, in order to stay in Sudan through the elections, as a witness and monitor.

Terrible!

He wasn't really built like an NBA player but he gave it 100% and had a good career. He was even better post NBA.

He always reminded me of another humanitarian:

Seriously, Manute Bol was a very good man. RIP

How many NBA players can claim this:

One of the standard tales, of course, was the time he killed a lion. I'll let Bill Gildea tell it, via his A1 profile in The Post:

Bol can be as hard to find as he was the time he killed a lion. First of all, the lion was asleep. "Otherwise," Bol said, "I would be killed."

He went on: "A lion killed one of the cows. Then I saw this lion -- I don't know if it was the same lion who killed the cow, but he was under a tree. I threw this spear -- we carry about 10 of them. I wasn't close to the lion, but I hit him. He jumped up and hit the limbs of the tree and he looked all around like he was looking for whoever shot him. Then he fell down and died. I was behind a tree."

I met him a few times at the BBall Hall of Fame when I worked there. He was always there either visiting or doing something donation-related. He lived pretty close by which is probably when he frequented the area. He did so many good things that are unheard of and was a great individual. He will be missed.
