Is it possible for a tailor to lengthen a suit?

1-2 inches is a lot. Bespoke suits can be made with a lot of extra fabric inside for a lifetime of wear but an OTR suit like yours is not going to have that much room. I don't even think OTR suits or even bespoke suits have enough fabric to let out at the hem (except the sleeves and pants). I personally thing this is impossible. Just get a new suit.

I have seen a few Brioni 36's around and there are of course many 38s on Ebay. Maybe you can look for some in a brand that runs small. Ie: Emporio cuts 1-2 sizes smaller than what the item is labeled and it runs long for a tall yet thin man.

I have a few suits that are 36R, 29 inches from collar to bottom. I feel that it's a little too short, and 38R are too big for me. All I am wondering is if a tailor can make the suit about 1 - 2 inches longer for me?Originally Posted by Mr.Boss
Have you tried taking them to your tailor and asking? As said above it is rarely easy to lengthen a suit due to lack of material, but the only way you'll know for sure is to take it to have it looked at.

You can make the jacket about 3/4" longer if you use a skilled tailor. There are variables so this is not a 100% guarantee. If you need an inch more length, you should be buying longs. It will usually be an inch or so longer. Differs by maker as to how much longer a long is than a regular.

The majority of makers grade 1/4" from size to size, i.e. 38 reg will be 1/4" longer than 36 reg, and from a reg to a tall is usually 1 1/2" in the coat length and 1" in the sleeve.

You can shorten a suit but not legthen it, your only option really is to go up a size.

Sleeves with nonworking buttonholes are fairly easy to alter.
OPs issue is lengthening the skirt of the coat.
