Question about Man Bags - Page 3

was that stitched by a blind person?

Let's see, if they were orginally issued to every civilian in england, I don't think they were really focusing on the stiching. It's supposed to be a faithful relica to the original, and that one is also distressed to match the Indy stuff. Despite what all those $300 workwear replica makers would have you belive, real vintage workwear and utitility items were cheap and quickly made rather then hand stiched with elephant hair thread.

yeah but if it's a more-expensive replica i would expect that they would make it better, unless that's the original pictured

I carried a medium timbuk2 messenger bag for 7 years to school/work...When I got a "real" job, I started carrying a leather bag that I bought in Florence (still with a messenger bag sort of strap and closing flap). Nothing weird about carrying a bag when you've got documents and other shit to deal with--the briefcase is not a new idea. When I go out to dinner or something...the bag does not come with (unless its straight from work). While I dislike overloading my pockets, phone/wallet/keys is not hard to do in pants and a non-issue with a coat/jacket. Sure, when I travel I will sometimes roll with a smaller man-bagish thing since I am usually carrying more stuff (camera, maps, shit I don't want to leave in the hotel/hostel room) but I simply don't have that much shit on a normal day outside of work. Oh, and that gas mask bag is sick. I would gladly use that for the aforementioned travel bag.

"Man bag" is right up there with "meggings" in fucking dumb fashion terminology

You can buy similar stuff from army navy stores, or buy repros, or find something marketed as a canvas field bag. They're not hard to find, not too pricey (unless you want an original British Mk. VII), and are durable as hell.

I got an old NOS E. German map case that is about the same size or a tad smaller and made out of leather. Its pretty sick, but I dont really wear it anymore.

A few years ago I would wear a Scissor case on my side in lieu of a big bag, it worked pretty well for smaller essential items.

Actually, re reading the site the pic is on, the bag itself is an original, and the strap is a new distressed piece.

Still, if you want the authentic look, the stitching done for function rather than style is a part of it.

what's the size of the WWII bag?

I thought Indy's adventures took place in the mid-30's? Oh well, Alden 405's may not have existed then either.
