Tell me about Red Moon wallets - Page 3

Those RM wallets are beautiful. But, I hate fat wallets (except when ladden with cash) with a passion. So, I'm never going to own one of these beauties. My wallet is certainly glad.

man, that leather quality seems apparent now.

You guys have me severely attracted to the RM Card cases. This is going to be a problem.
Yeah, I want a RM coin case, but at $100+, I am not sure that makes sense. I bought a leather tray-style coin purse for $10, but it is coming apart already. So... I dunno. Can't do it. The pull is strong.

whats the use of neatfoot oil??
Neatsfoot oil \t\t \t\t\tFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJump to: navigation, search \t\t\t \t\t\tNeatsfoot oil is a yellow oil rendered and purified from the feet and shin bones (not the hooves) of cattle. It is used as a conditioning, softening and preservative for leather, and remains liquid down to a low temperature. Neatsfoot oil is produced much less than it once was. Currently, the shins and feet of cattle are usually rendered along with the rest of the body. Also, many products sold as neatsfoot oil are actually diluted with petroleum oil, which is bad for leather. The best quality neatsfoot oil comes from the legs of calves. The fat in animals' legs generally has a lower melting point than the body fat which means that it is more fluid and easier to use at lower temperatures making it more effective for treating leather. 'Neat' in the oil's name comes from an old term for animals of the genus Bos, especially cattle.

how do I apply neatsfoot? how often should I apply it? anything else I should know to make my new (slightly used) red moon last a good long time?
do u juz apply on the outside? or the inside needs to be applied too?
I put it on a clothe, and just rubbed with an old T shirt. HOWEVER, I found that once it dried, not much happened, and after about 5-8 applications, I have given up. Suntanning, it seems, is the way to go, then wear that mutha!

hmm. i googled on neatsfoot and here is what i found.

"Neatsfoot oil fills the capillaries in the leather and prevents the exchange
of humidity- it also makes the leather 'sleazy', invites rodents and dogs to
eat it, pulls dirt out of the air and crusts it to your material.
Neatsfoot is used to refurbish leather that is filled with horse sweat-
salty, crusty, and stiff.
I prefer a 'shoe creme'- sometimes a little pure lanolin- never used saddle
soap or neatsfoot oil. I also don't like mink oil- but mostly because it
draws insects/rodents and little animals to eat it. "

redmoon might have their own oil to be used for maintenance on their leather goods. i will see if they have anything if i visit their tokyo store any time soon.

i own PW-01 in black, oiled lether. you wouldnt see any changes in the color like saddle leather, but has a very distinct shine to it instead. i just wish they put up measurements on their site though. this one turned out to be a little larger than i expected.
